LAREDO, Texas - Customs inspectors at the World Trade Bridge on Tuesday said they seized 3 tons of marijuana in a tractor-trailer crossing from Mexico.
Monday night's 6,428-pound load was found in 356 bundles, dispersed throughout a load of brake master cylinders and switchboards. A drug-sniffing dog alerted to the scent during a truck inspection, the officials said.
Officials said the marijuana has a street value of $6.4 million, the second largest seizure for the bridge after a 6,580-pound load seized in September 2001.
No arrests had been made Tuesday, and the investigation was ongoing.
