New Rules: You And The IRS This January

The new ObamaCare1099 rule for reporting of all cash, credit and check business transactions of $600 or more is scheduled to begin January of 2012. This is really an extension of the 2008 Housing and Recovery Act IRS rules that start this January when merchant banks and PayPal will report business sales directly to the IRS (the reporting threshold is $20,000 and 200 transactions a year).

Ackerman: Media Spins Illusion of Hope and Change

We only think we are changing this world for the better when we throw the rascals out on election day, says Wayne. In reality…well, there may be no reality for those who see the world through the eyes of TV news, pop magazines and newspapers. If we are to escape from the illusion that has imprisoned us like a maze, says Wayne, we’re going to simply have to free our minds from the illusion itself and walk away from it.

Worden: THIS IS HUGE!

It seems like at least a full year ago or more I wrote about the mortgage mess and how virtually impossible it will be to unravel those “bundled” mortgages that were sold to mostly foreign investors. I further wrote that because it will be almost impossible to establish who actually owns a given mortgage, it will be just as impossible for a lender claiming to have ownership to prove that ownership and thereby establish legal authority to proceed with foreclosure.

Powell: Lessons for America from Germany’s Hyperinflation

Many Americans may be inclined to assume that Germans were barbaric because they supported Hitler, and whatever happened there couldn’t possibly apply to the United States. But the Germans have had much more in common with Americans than we might realize.

Germans were educated and industrious. Germany had world-class universities. Germans long led the world in scientific achievement. Many German companies were highly efficient producers. German immigrants contributed a great deal to American cultural life, including kindergartens, gymnasiums, picnics, hamburgers, hot dogs, and Christmas trees.

Wheeler: We can all drink to that

It was a sobering dinner party last night (6/16). Hosted by a London billionaire in his exquisite home – a Boccaccio hung on the wall behind me – the wine flowed liberally, but the conversation between the ten of us was stone-cold serious.

There were lighter moments, as when I proposed a toast to “a great hero of Europe – Geert Wilders.” Every one raised their glass in a smile, but the biggest smile was that of a spectacularly gorgeous super-model (you’ve seen her in many a high-fashion ad). She was from Holland.

The Obama Dollar

The collapse of the dollar to less than a 1,200th of an ounce of gold is emerging as one of the astonishing stories of our time.

Yet even more astonishing is the lack of focus on that story by the intelligentsia in our press and politics. It is a silence on which these columns have remarked a number of times of late, including on March 14, 2008, right after the value of the greenback toppled below a thousandth of an ounce of gold.

NOVOS ORDO MUNDI: Make of it what you will….

hamlin_frnIs this the New Money of the North American Union? If so, when will it hit the street? When will you be required to exchange the old notes for the new ones – and at what rate?  A reader took note that instead of saying NOVOS ORDO SECLOREUM, it says, NOVOS ORDO MUNDI. ( In Spanish, “MUNDO” means world.) She did  not have a Latin Dictionary, so that is close enough. Or does the word, “MUNDI” rhyme with “MONEY”, and it is all someones idea of a joke?

Who is Charles S. Hamlin? We  don’t know, but judging by the celluloid collar, he goes back 100 years.
