The Last Hurrah

By Jeffrey Bennett

IV'E ALWAYS SHOT STRAIGHT!

~ Foreword ~

Since the death of William Cooper three years ago this month, I have been broadcasting at WWCR continually – longer than any other “broadcaster” currently on the air. Others began before me and most many years after I began – and many of those were signed by me to have their own programs. Today, my official stint with World Wide Christian Radio comes to a close.

My neighbor is an interesting fellow. Former IRS Agent who burned out after contracting cancer, and bums around in Mexico diving. Up until now he has always come back to America – but maybe not for long. He currently resides in our neighborhood, I guess to keep an eye on everyone else. He seems relatively bored with life, yet I feel a certain kinship with him. We've both made some serious mistakes for which we're paying some very serious prices. He's twice divorced; I’m still married. He's cynical as hell and so am I. Neither of us has many friends. I like him.

And that's why I told him how I have spent most of my days, nights and weekends for this past decade. I should have just shut up, or lied – after all – he IS a retired Company man. As we have learned about each other over the past year, we have silently agreed that one subject is taboo if we are to remain friends and neighbors – the Internal Revenue Service and it’s diabolical tax “code.”

What I do is not for enjoyment. I tell people (and myself) that I enjoy it all to pieces, but the truth is I don't actually enjoy it that much – not any more!. The truth is, that after having dedicated my life these past nine-plus years, to broadcasting on World Wide Christian Radio – I am frankly tired of the fight. Good – just what the fascist opposition wants to hear!

So why have I spent so much time on this endeavor?

That's the question my friend asked me. It's the question I used to lay awake asking myself night after night, already knowing the answer. Along with, "am I effing nuts?"

I wish I could believe that the original intent of our republic could be restored. I really do. Recently, I was urged to read L. Neil Smith's and Aaron Zelman's book Hope. I leaned back in my chair and put my feet up on the desk (which my grand daughter mimics whenever she comes over) and wondered what it would be like to have someone like Alexander Hope as president of these United states of America, who would prove a way for us to restore our liberty while punishing those guilty of stealing it from us. Fat chance – not with the shallow jerks, which THEY put before us. I am unable to visualize this kind of a leader in my lifetime.

No president like that will arise – nor will Americans rise up, either – they can’t do it – they have been shacking up with Rip Van Winkle since about 1946. They will not awaken today – they won’t do it tomorrow - not even when it's too late. At the point of a bayonet they’ll be begging for someone else to ”save them.” In the unlikely event we do organize for revolt, we will get our asses annihilated. The Revolution is but a pipe-dream and too many azz-whole broadcasters on the alternative media – short-wave, satellite and the internet - are bleeding listeners dry with stories that sell a lot of tickets to the dogma and pony show, yet come with no guarantee – only more bullshit!

We kept our program as commercial-free as possible for all of these years, believing that the content was worth more than the buck. But it takes $$$$ to float the boat and ever since February, when the program kept getting moved around - the audience could no longer find us on the dial and people sent their support elswhere. It's like my grandaughter says, "No money - no honey." Well honey, there ain't no money so - "hasta la vista baby!" I refuse to stoop to the levels of lying, cheating and stealing from the public as others continue to do.

It is now long past time for a change. It is long overdue. The day to day life of trying to reach the sheople of this once great Republic no longer appeals. They can not be reached – most are too ignorant and deaf to hear. Today, we in America live in a visual world – an MTV world – sex, drugs & rock and roll. The hustle and bustle of politics will never bore me, but those who lie and die by the political sword, do.

Short-wave radio is a one-dimensional world, dominated by extremists. Extremists live to hate. Increasingly, those who follow these zealots are shallow lemmings who lack both the will and the capacity to think for themselves. Anger drives them and they are controlled not by love of country but adherence to party dogma – take your pick – Jones or Johnny or Steve or Tinkerbell – everyone has something to sell – and I don’t necessarily mean “product.” These are amongst the reasons I no longer will be broadcasting Perspectives on America on WWCR – too many of the listeners have become followers of self-aggrandizing zealots. I don’t wish to be a part of this circus any longer. Short-wave radio has become dogma and Saturday, November 13, 2004 was my last regular program.

And yet, our daily radio program was born out of such anger – anger at the system, anger with the status quo, anger at the absence of truth in the published and broadcast media and the corridors of power in Washington. I am still angry – but not enough of the rest of America is. Perspectives on America thrived because life in America as we had come to know it, fueled that anger. Now my anger is directed at those who I have tried to reach – the brain-dead of America.

Yeah, I know. I’ve tried to walk away before, only to return because something or someone managed to piss me off enough. But I no longer want, to be pissed at anything. But who knows what the future will bring? I know that I’ll still be doing radio – somewhere, someday, some night. I'll continue to guest on Rick Biesada's radio program and Wing-TV. I'll continue to do guest slots on various programs around the country, including KSOB in Denton County, Texas. Beyond that? - Keep reading The Federal Observer and you’ll know when and where. Life is too fleeting to dick-around with wasted endeavors. I owe what little time I have left on this earth to my wife, my children and my two beautiful grand daughters.

Along the way, I find that I really don’t give a shit what George W. Bush has done or will do – any more than I give a damn what the Dumb-O-craps have charged and who said what on Kiss My Ass Meet the Press. There really is no difference between the two so-called political parties – they are both watering out of the same trough – they are having the party at our expense – and we don’t even get hats, whistles or bells. The post-election rhetoric is merely more bullshit to make people believe that there is a difference – and if you continue to fall for it – then you haven’t learned a damn thing in these nine-plus years.

I frankly find that I no longer give a damn about the average idiot out there. I can’t afford to care more for you than you care about yourself… and so, ”I've got to go, folks. It's all right. I'm not afraid. Remember this - some time - when the team is up against it, when things are wrong and the breaks are beating you down, just go in there with all you've got and win just one for Bennett. I don't know where I'll be then, but I'll know about it, and I'll be happy."

As stated in my previous column, Ya Gotta Pick Your Fights - The Federal Observer will continue to fight on.

Thanks goes out to a lot of folks, who (unbeknownst to them) had a hand in providing me with the basis for what this column has become. In addition – thanks Ronald Reagan - as the Gipper - and the scriptwriters at Warner Bros. in the 1940's for that last paragraph – I couldn’t have said it better if I wrote it myself – which I didn’t – and like most of this column – I have plagiarized it from exit columns from many good writers, who chose to bail out.

But for now it’s time to go. Thanks for the fish. It stinks around here!

I’ll see ya at the movies…

~ Afterword ~

Say does that mean that we can start that Pizza Parlour now in Podunk or was that Pocatello?

Seriously I feel for you and that the Sheople of this country as so non responsive and complacent in their outlook on live.

A man once told me that the control that Govt. keeps over the people is in the incarnation of a full belly.

I asked him why and his response was that when the belly was full and the contentment feeling came over the person the blood that would normally be used for thinking was scavenged away by the digestive function.

Keep that belly empty and the brain is always more active.

That's a survival mechanism that is going and to have your wits about them to survive.

Wait till some day (GOD forbid ) if and when the shit will hit the preverbal fan first hand we will all witness the awakening of these Rip van Winkle's and they wouldn't have clue when that Willy Coyote 20 ton weight from the Acme Corp. falls on their heads.

What are you going to do to keep you busy?

Keep in touch my friend!

Regard's,
Gerry (Father O'Leary)
