Robert E. Lee On His Horse Traveller

I made a decision earlier in the week to take my fourteen year old granddaughter, Bully – north to Prescott for a day (an overnight stay) with her seven year old cousin, Sneaky Bob. A deal was made with her, because in many respects, she is just like the individual that she calls ‘Daddy,’ who was and is a veritable SLOB! She is not a slob – but she is messy as all hell get out and trying to get her to keep her room clean is the impossible dream. She did the job – not perfect – but to the point where I knew that she needed this trip…

I’ll not bore you with that story, but it is not a pleasant one, but that is why she lives with Daddo and Hammy (me and the Little Woman). Yeah, well – the Bully’s mother isn’t around either. I saw a bumper sticker some years ago which said, “If I had known how easy it was to raise grandchildren – I’d have had them first.

So I picked her up from school at 2:15 on Friday afternoon and we took off for the high desert and arrived at Sneaky Bob’s house around 4:30. I stayed for no longer than 15 or 20 minutes while I shot the breeze with the folks therein and headed further up the hills. First, I had an errand to run to meet up with an older woman whom I had met several weeks ago. No, no – none of that nonsense – but to take her some CD’s which I had decided to part with, and frankly – I didn’t think that I would get much for them at a garage sale – so what the hell.

Marjorie and I had spoken about some of this music when we first met… so I figured “what the heck?” Plus, most of them are loaded on various different computers anyway. Some confusion with the store owner where I had met her, but within 15 minutes she phoned me and said that she had figured everything out… Never mind – it’s too confusing, but I was able to speak with Marjorie on the phone and she was blown away that I would make this trip just to bring her some tunes. well – music DOES sooth the savage beast and I live it with nearly every waking moment of my day – so why not share it!

I took several business calls while all of this was taking place, one from a client who had received his order of “goods” – but the box had been broken (UPS probably was playing kick-ball with it) and another call from a client who is adding to his Precious Metals IRA, and he just had a couple of questions about his paperwork.

All is done and I need to go find a hotel. The gift store manager where I had dropped off the music for Marjorie suggested a couple of vintage hotels in the downtown area. I thanked her and left – I had to position myself in a better geographic location, so I headed slightly down hill – and located the local Harbor Freight store – and boy – had I come prepared. I purchased a piece of equipment from them earlier this year – an electric blower/vacuum-cleaner combo for doing yard clean-up and such. I had only used the vacuum bag (for leaves) once and four months later – the bag had rotted at the mounting bracket. The manager said that they don’t usually do refunds, and I told her that I was more interested in an exchange, which she agreed to – so long as I purchased their “warranty,” which I agreed to do. $10.00 for full coverage for two-years – including if I ran over it with my truck. I am happy…

Now it’s time to locate a hotel – and I did. No advertising here as it is not necessary – but it is a really great place and unbeknownst to me until later – it’s located on Lee Ave. Now I am smiling.

Oh yeah – I am a Traveller this weekend and am staying on Lee Ave.

If I need to explain that to you – then you haven’t lived nor understood my life and my beliefs.

The air is much cleaner at this elevation and tonight I shall be at peace when I lay my head down – which is going to be in about 5 minutes.

We’ll be back home on Saturday night.

I’ll see you at Sundown…
