Of Motivational Deficiency & Intellectual Lethargy
Sometimes I wonder if the whole world is screwed up or if it is just me. Am I a relic, someone who does not belong in society with this atmosphere of political correctness? I was raised to believe that a man should speak what’s on his mind, not pull any punches. As a close friend said on Facebook the other day, call a spade a spade. I can’t begin to count the times that I have been told that it is not proper to call people stupid or lazy…even though that is exactly what they are.
I may have mentioned before that my father used to quote these little sayings ad-nauseam. But the repetition hammered them home and now that I have grown older I understand that he was only trying to provide me with a set of guidelines by which I could live my life. One of his favorites was “If you’re gonna do a job, do it right.” Sounds simple enough right, but you wouldn’t believe how often I see people who don’t do their jobs right. Not that they are incapable of doing it right, they just don’t seem to want to.
Day after day I go to work and I see people who are resistant to work or exertion; disposed to idleness. Funny that that description is the definition of lazy, but since calling someone lazy is politically incorrect, I guess I will instead call them motivationally deficient.
It aggravates me, no, that’s not right, it angers me to no end that people don’t want to exert themselves in the performance of their jobs. I often complain about it out loud just to get it off my chest and someone always seems to say that not everyone is Superman like me. What kind of idiotic statement is that? I am not a superman, I just do what’s expected of me to earn the pay that I receive. Hell, my wife is almost a foot shorter and 80 pounds lighter than me and she works harder than I do. So what’s this shit about me being Superman?
Even one of the people in Human Resources said that my wife and I are THE EXCEPTIONS. That’s ridiculous! The company I work for has job descriptions for each position in the plant, a listing of the things you are supposed to be able to do in the performance of each position. Why aren’t these standards being enforced? I keep hearing that not everyone is capable of working as hard as my wife and I. Have they ever stopped to think that just maybe some people aren’t cut out for this kind of work?
I have nothing against people, but dammit why should they get paid to do a job when they just can’t meet the standards for their position? Let me ask you a question; if you hire a mechanic to repair your car and he isn’t capable of doing the job properly, would you still pay him? If you hire a gardener to maintain your yard and all he does is sit around in the shade complaining about the conditions, would you still pay him? Why not when that is the same thing as what I have to put up with every day at work, people expecting to get paid for a job that they are incapable, or unwilling, to do according to the standards set for that job.
Why all the griping about laziness, oops, I mean motivational deficiency? Well because it ties in to something else that bothers me as well, intellectual lethargy. Not only do people refuse to work, they refuse to think as well. I do not know if it is that they are incapable of doing any serious thinking, or if they just prefer not to, but in either case you end up with the same result.
In 1775, at St. Johns Church in Richmond Virginia, Patrick Henry declared, “Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and to provide for it.”
For the most part, I have not found that to be true in the people I know. Not that there aren’t people who are seeking the truth, but they represent but a small minority. Over the course of nearly a century, if not longer, our government has slowly been bringing this nation closer and closer to destruction. Yet people still look to choose people to represent them from the same pool of slime-buckets and jackasses that are responsible for every single problem this country now experiences.
I cannot even get people to take the time to read the Constitution which outlines the form and function of their government, how the hell am I supposed to convince them that their government has abandoned that document and are now the sole deciders of what powers they will wield? And if I can’t get people to do something as simple as that, how am I supposed to get them to believe that their government is guilty of monstrous crimes against us, and humanity in general?
In the movie V for Vendetta there is a scene when a Detective Finch is having a conversation with his partner Dominic. The conversation goes as follows:
Finch: I want to ask a question, Dominic. I don’t care if you answer me or not. I just wanna say this aloud… The question I want to ask is about St. Mary’s and Three Waters. The question that’s kept me up for the last 24 hours, the question I have to ask, is: What if the worst, the most horrifying, biological attack in this country’s history was not the work of religious extremists?
Dominic: Well, I don’t understand. We know it was. They were caught. They confessed.
Finch: And they were executed, I know. And maybe that’s really what happened. But I see this chain of events, these coincidences… and I have to ask: What if that isn’t what happened? What if someone else unleashed that virus? What if someone else killed all those people? Would you really wanna know who it was?
Dominic: Sure.
Finch: …Even if it was someone working for this government? That’s my question. If our own government was responsible for the deaths of almost one hundred thousand people… would you really wanna know?
Prior to this conversation taking place, the title character V, considered a terrorist by some, made the following statement, “I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn’t be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you…”
You see, that is exactly what happened on 911, fear got the best of us, and we readily accepted all sorts of infringements upon our rights that would never have been tolerated had we not been afraid of the big bad bogeyman terrorists.
Yet now, anyone who questions the so-called official version of what transpired on that day is considered a kook, a conspiracy nut. Even when evidence is provided that would cause a THINKING person to at least question the official story, people continue believing the lie that they have been spoon fed by their government and the media.
That kind of goes back to what Patrick Henry said in 1775, “…, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and to provide for it.” But that’s just it, people today aren’t willing to know the truth. Hell, half the time they don’t care, and then the other half they refuse to accept it once it is presented to them.
I have no idea who Hendrick Willem Van Loon is, but he once said, “Any formal attack on ignorance is bound to fail because the masses are always ready to defend their most precious possession – their ignorance.” As the old saying goes, ignorance is bliss. People would rather live their lives free of the truth, because once they accept the truth they would no longer be able accept anything their government told them at face value anymore.
That is why I no longer trust the system to work the way it was designed. They players have all been chosen, bought, paid for, and corrupted by a select few powerful men whose goal is world domination. I think it is crazy to believe in a system that as far as I’m concerned, is completely broken. But didn’t Einstein say that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results?
But I suppose all this ties into my disdain for political correctness as George MacDonald once said that the two pillars of political correctness are: a willful ignorance and a steadfast refusal to face the truth.
So, in closing, I guess I was born in the wrong era since it simply is not politically correct to call most people what they are, lazy and stupid. My last article Get A Life, appears to have cost me the friendship of someone I have known for nearly 15 years. I suppose this one may cost me a few more as well. I know that there will be those who read this and can relate to how I feel.
Although I have never met most of them personally, they are those whom I consider my true friends anyway. If I piss off the rest of the world, as I said in my last article…so be it.
