Have We Created A Monster? (And If So, Is The Monster To Blame, Or Are We For Creating It?)
I am sure that at some point in your lives you have seen a movie where man creates something the ends up getting out of hand and causing more problems than anticipated. The movie Frankenstein comes to mind, as does the Terminator and Matrix movies where man created computer systems with artificial intelligence, which then rebelled against the human race with unintended consequences.
Our nation’s Declaration of Independence states that “…Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…” No matter what they tell you, or what you may think, those people sitting in our nation’s capital are our servants, they are accountable to us for their actions.
Yet we the people, whether because of apathy or ignorance, have allowed our government to become this monstrous entity that now taxes and regulates us, while infringing upon our inherent God-given rights.
Were it not for our Constitution, the government as we know it today would not exist. Our founders designed this system of government to serve specific and enumerated powers, which, if they were to exceed, would comprise oppression and tyranny.
Thomas Jefferson warned us that “The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.” What Jefferson was saying that if we do not restrict our government to the powers specifically granted them by the Constitution, they would become criminals.
Even Patrick Henry declared that “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government-lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.”
Our founders could never have foreseen the monster that is our government today. They would both saddened and outraged that we the people have squandered the blessing of liberty that they had bequeathed to us. As Samuel Adams once said in regards to the blessing of liberty, “It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.”
When I first became politically active I constantly wrote my elected officials, explaining why I felt their actions overstepped the authority granted them by the Constitution. Now I realize that my efforts had fallen upon deaf ears, as those people do not care whether their actions violate the supreme law of the land.
Those corrupt men and women who sit in the halls of power in Washington D.C. no longer serve us, they serve a different master, whose goal has nothing to do with what is best for our nation. Whether they serve solely for the corporations, or for the banking interests, it really doesn’t matter, as our best interest does not play into their plans for this country. That is why I agree with my friend Jim Schwiesow, who in his recent column, The New Age-It Stinks, said, “I wonder about the wisdom of a people that continually and hysterically search the political fields looking for a savior from among men.”
People are still looking to be led, whether it is by a strong candidate for president who will uphold the Constitution, to a simple writer such as myself to educate them in regards to the principles contained in the Constitution. When will people grow a spine and begin to take responsibility for their own lives, their own actions?
People always ask me what we can do, whom can we vote for to fix this country. I have long since given up that the change necessary to restore America to a republic based upon our rights and liberty, can be achieved at the ballot box.
In 1789 Thomas Jefferson drafted the Kentucky Resolutions in response to the Alien and Sedition Acts. From that document I quote “That the several States composing the United States of America, are not united on the principle of unlimited submission to their General Government . . . . and that whensoever the General Government assumes undelegated powers, its acts are unauthoritative, void, and of no force.”
Much of the sentiments Jefferson held in regards to liberty and natural rights were derived from the writings of John Locke. From Locke’s Second Treatise I quote, “Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience.”
That is your answer right there. It is not whom you can vote for, to quote the cartoon character Popeye, it is when are you going to say that I’ve had all that I can stand, and I can’t stand no more?
People are always blaming government for the problems this country faces. Our representatives are constantly looking to polls to gauge their approval ratings. Yet for the most part these clowns are re-elected and business goes on as usual. If they are thrown out on their ass where they belong, they never face any kind of criminal charges for the crimes they committed against we the people. So ultimately, it is we the people who are to blame for everything that is wrong in this country. Those traitors in D.C. do not respect us because we have not put the fear of God into them, and that is the direction this missive will now take.
You see, Samuel Adams warned us that “[N]either the wisest constitution nor the wisest of laws will secure the liberty and happiness of a people whose manners are universally corrupt.” Patrick Henry warned “It is when people forget God that tyrants forge their chains.”
There is a quote that is often attributed to Alexander Tytler, which states, “Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.” The United States of America has followed that path and are now currently somewhere near the final stages, somewhere between dependence and bondage.
I know that some people are not going to want to hear this, but while we may be suffering from a government gone wild, we could be saved in an instant if we would once again turn our hearts to God. In the Book of Daniel we read, “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, For wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding.”
Make no mistake about it, this nation is corrupt, rotten to the core, and those who claim to be God-fearing people hide in the corners and allow evil to run rampant without uttering a sound.
My own state of California could probably teach the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah a thing or two about abomination. Just recently Governor Jerry Brown singed SB 48, the Fair Accurate Inclusive and Respectful, (FAIR) Education Act. This piece of legislation is designed to teach acceptance and honor the contributions to society of the homosexual communities.
What rubbish! People make contributions to society and it has nothing at all to do with their sexual preference, be they conventional, or dare I say, QUEER. Although the word queer is one which has become politically incorrect, it simply means something that is different or unusual than normal, and that is exactly what homosexual behavior is.
People often refer to the Old Testament, and the book of Leviticus when arguing against homosexuality. Yet homosexuality is also spoken of in the New Testament, specifically in the Book of Romans, where it states, “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.”
And it isn’t just perversion that is rampant in our country. According to the National Right to Life Center, roughly 1.2 million abortions are performed annually in this country. While abortion may not be an issue upon which our government has the authority to legislate upon, it certainly is an issue upon which we the people can change.
That many abortions per year would be like taking out the entire population of Dallas Texas, or San Diego, or Phoenix Arizona. These lives are taken because women defend their right to choice. So, because pregnancy has become inconvenient for some, 1.2 million lives are snuffed out every year before they ever took their first breath of air outside the womb.
Everywhere I go I see bumper stickers on vehicles saying God Bless America and I have to restrain myself from screaming at the drivers, “Why should He?” So yes, I feel that our government is corrupt, but our government only reflects the general attitudes and beliefs to the people it represents.
If we truly want to restore our nation to one in which individual liberty and God-given rights are respected, then maybe we ought to start respecting the laws that God has given us to by which we should be living our lives. I see people getting all emotional about the upcoming presidential election, placing all their hope upon one candidate to change America for the better, when if we would all bow our heads in repentance and accept the Lord Jesus Christ into our lives, do you not think that God would restore our country to its former glory?
So go ahead, place all your faith in a system that is broken and corrupt. I will continue to believe that until this nation changes its attitudes and perceptions about a wide range of subjects, that not a damn thing is going to change, no matter whom we elect for President.

We, the people of this once great nation, are faced with a conundrum insofar as our national leadership is concerned. We all know that our politicians are useless, brainless, corrupt, power hungry, lying and cheating morons who don’t deserve to be told what time it is, let alone be given control over the clock. Everyone who runs for office either is, or becomes, or is perceived as a politician, therefore rendering every one of them useless, brainless, corrupt, power hungry, lying and cheating and totally unworthy of our vote, much less a leadership position in our government or society in general.
Neal, I admire you tremendously. You have been a voice crying in the wilderness for as long as I have been reading your commentaries, which has been for quite a while. I don’t remember how or when I stumbled upon you, but I have been, probably unknown to you, one of your most avid fans, seeing in your writing a mirror of what I wish I could say as eloquently as you say it. That said, what do you think would happen if you were to announce your candidacy for a vacant Congressional seat, or the Presidency, or even your city council?
With many – probably the majority – you would first have to contend with the lack of name recognition, possibly and probably even locally. You would have to deal with the regulatory bullshit governing your run for office, whatever office that might be; proper use of campaign funds, raising money to conduct the campaign, scheduling speeches, obtaining the necessary permits for a political or fund-raising rally or other event, deciding which party you would be running under (I know, you would want to run as an Independent, if anything, but We, the people, have become so indoctrinated, so conditioned, so mindless, and so apathetic that we would give you the same chance as an Independent as we give everyone else who runs as an Independent without name recognition, and kind of just skim over your name looking for the Republican or Democrat candidate). I think you know what I’m talking about here, and what I’ve listed above is just the tip of the iceberg. At the end of the day, it just winds up “Neal Ross? Oh, he’s just another politician who talks a great line, but they’re all alike. They’ll say and do anything to get elected. Look at what we’ve got right now. What’s to expect he’s any different?”
It’s distressing to say, heart breaking to realize, and frightening to mention in any forum, but what we need in this country is a revolution – a real revolution – that will be recognized by those in power as a revolution, and cause them fear and looking for a means of escaping before the revolution reaches them. I’ve thought about this a lot, and no matter how hard I try, I can’t find any other solution to the problem. I can’t find any other way to get back to the Constitution. This country is so diverse in every conceivable way, and so divided in every conceivable issue, that next to revolution, the only other answer is a breakup and re-organization of the government under the original document, in a smaller and more effectively administered group of states and population, and even then there are going to be problems. I don’t have answers. God knows, I wish I did. But in reality, I think we are dug in so deep that there is no real satisfactory solution without some form of what would be considered bullying into it, and then there would be the criticism that the methods by which the “new Republic” were achieved were not in keeping with the goal. There would be nothing I would like more than to be able to sit down with you and discuss this stuff face to face. Alas, you’re in the closest thing to a communist state and I’m in a state right next to you (Arizona) which has, unfortunately, been infiltrated by fellow travelers and secret agents from California. If you ever come to Arizona, I’d love for you to get in touch with me so we could meet. Maybe that’s the kind of thing necessary to reach a solution. If the readers and writers of this website could get together and frankly discuss the issues and possible means of solving them, it could turn things around – in time of course.
In the meantime, keep writing, keep bitching, keep up the pressure, whatever pressure there might be, and keep the faith, literally. God knows who’s who and what’s what. He is always faithful. And when things get you down and you feel like you’re beating your head against the wall, remember the last two lines of Psalm 46: “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.”
That’s His promise.
