Case: The Adventures of Mayor Bubba “Bendover” Cashew
Part One
This is a series of fictional short stories about a mythical city named Oner, located in the mythical State of Adaven. It has several fictional characters. Bubba Bendover Cashew, a typical good ol’ boy mayor who never turned down a handout from Whory “the majority Looter” Reed – A mythical U.S. Senator from the State of Adaven; Sharon “the Hun” Ardaz, a mythical council person, a real estate developers wet dream. She never met a developer for which she wouldn’t stomp on neighboring homeowners to slam their projects through, with or without compensation. She does it just for fun. She is like a rabid rhino when pushing through developer’s agendas at the expense of adjacent property owner’s rights and safety. Other fictional characters, agencies and businesses will be introduced as the stories develop. Any similarity between these fictional entities, people and events to real entities, people and events are purely coincidental and luck of the draw. (G.C.)
The Wild One
Whory the looter Reed was running for re-election when he began calling in markers for all the loot he handed out to fellow second-handers and parasites. One name on that list was old doddering Bubba Bendover Cashew, the mayor of Oner. He was so addicted to plunder from Whory and other looters, he had to respond positively to Whory’s request for help. Whory instructed Bendover to malign his anti- looting opponent, Sharon Angler, who was supported by anti-looting voters. Bendover gladly agreed to the demand, anything to protect his share of Whory’s plunder. So, Whory dictated exactly what Bendover was to say and Bendover complied. He called the anti looting Angler a “wild one” and warned if she got elected Bendover “wouldn’t be able to get anything done”. Poor Bendover. He was publicly admitting he couldn’t get anything done unless Whory was paving the way with plunder or holding his hand while strolling down city streets for photo shoots. He proved he was Whory’s boy. Bendover was fearful that without Whory the Looter he might have to live within a real budget sans the loot from Whory. That would take skill, honesty, integrity, tough decisions on priorities, spending restraints and hard work, things Bendover couldn’t bring himself to face. Even though Bendover was unable to handle even a simple ditch maintenance issue (See “The Ditch” below) while Whory was in office, he whimpered like a little girl, trying to scare people into voting for Whory the Looter so things could get done. It must have worked because Whory got re-elected with a massive effort of his parasitical unions in southern Avaden. Bendover thought he was safe for another 4 years but what goes around comes around, usually.
The Con was conned
After Whory was safely re-elected, Bendover wasted no time in getting back to the business at hand, getting his “fair” share of the plunder from Whory the Looter. Bendover, after being beaten up by Sharon the Hun Ardaz, needed to bend way over for their co-favorite developer, Templetone, again. Bendover called Whory with a plea for some plunder from the U.S. taxpayers so they could take care of Templetone at the expense of home owners on a new project in Ardaz’s ward. Nothing unusual for Bendover the benevolent (gracious with other’s money). Whory did not respond though to Bendover in the customary way he had for years. Whory explained to Bendover that it was going to be much tougher now that some “wild ones” actually did get elected to office and many others were watching every move Whory and other big government parasites were making. Bendover turned pale as he realized the host of their parasitical activity, the tax payers, woke up, at least a little. He then began to beg. He told Whory he made a fool of himself with the attack he made on Sharon Angler for Whory’s benefit and that Whory owed him for the hit job. Whory laughed and told Bendover, “I’m too old, corrupt and senile to run again. I just used you like the good little bend over guy you are. Sorry Bendover, but you are on your own”. Bendover had been conned and was now on his own. What was Bendover to do now that Whory would soon be much less powerful and had lost his co-looter speaker Nancy the Putrid Fallacy in the House? He was now about to face one of those angry constituents who despised the looting policies of Whory and his ilk. Bub Bendover Cashew, meet Gored Cash, a co-victim of Sharon the Hun Ardaz and yourself. Gored Cash owned the property adjacent to The Ditch that Templetone the Terrible owned and neglected to properly maintain while the City allowed and even defended their negligence.
The Ditch
When Gored Cash bought his home and property in Ardaz the Hun’s ward, he didn’t realize that he would be faced with an unscrupulous developer, dishonest to the core, supported and protected by Ardaz the Hun and Bendover’s administration, in his own backyard. Gored Cash was a firm believer in private property rights, being able to use one’s property in any manner they chose as long as that use did not damage his neighbor’s property or their rights. He also expected the same treatment in return. He was to get an education on the City of Oner’s love affair with nectar from their gods, that being development fees, enhanced tax revenues from development, et al. He also discovered the City’s practice of regularly considering existing adjacent homeowner’s property rights subordinate to their gods, developers such as Templetone the Terrible.
Roughly 8 years after purchasing his home in Oner, Gored Cash was faced with a notification that the pasture land behind his home was purchased by Templetone the Terrible development company and it was their intention to build a commercial office park. Gored Cash would have preferred to keep the existing pastureland behind his home but realized that the property would be developed once the rancher that had owned it passed on. Gored Cash was concerned about a commercial development going in adjacent to his property but believed that with proper precautions, agreements and the City of Oner making sure it was done properly, the impact would not be unbearable. His main concern was maintaining some semblance of privacy and there was the issue of an irrigation ditch that was adjacent to his property that was now owned by the developer Templetone the Terrible. Gored was worried that when a wall was put up between the ditch and the development’s planned parking lot, the wall would become a barrier to the natural and historical flow of water when elevated run off occurred. Normally the extra flow moved beyond where the wall was to be built and that would mean the flow would now be forced onto Gored’s property. Gored tried to get the City to demand that a proper channel was built that would handle the flow during elevated run off after Templetone made it clear they had no interest in negotiating with him or other affected neighbors directly, being gods and all. Sharon the Hun Ardaz and the rest of Bendover’s council allowed Templetone the Terrible to get their way time after time. Templetone would make promises and then break them as soon as the council approved something in their favor. Ardaz the Hun was in full support of Templetone’s deceptive and unethical, possibly illegal, activities all the way. I’m sure she did it thinking it was best for the “community” (her interests) but it should be noted she does NOT live adjacent to Templetone the Terrible’s development. It should also be noted that there has never been one connection attempted to be made of personal common financial interests between Ardaz the Hun and Templetone, just to be totally fair here. With the aid of Ardaz the Hun and Bendover’s administration, Templetone mowed right over the homeowner’s concerns and even to this very day Templetone is not forced to live up to the agreements they made with the City of Oner regarding drainage maintenance. Bendover can’t get even get a ditch cleaned out. Templetone gives the marching orders and Bendover complies and Ardaz the Hun looks for her next conquest of a lowly peasant homeowner. I wonder how much that was really worth to the Hun and what form that worth may have taken? I also wonder how many other Templetones she has helped to step on adjacent homeowners. Gored has decided to make it an endeavor to find out and report accordingly.
To date, Ardaz has not answered one email from Gored in attempts to get resolution on a clogged drainage ditch in her ward. It wouldn’t be a surprise if she was aiding Templetone again to assure they could stick it to Gored Cash, all with due process, of course. Since she obviously is Templetone’s agent, it would be a conflict of interest to actually and effectively assist a constituent in her ward that dares yo raise a complaint against one of the developer gods in Oner.
