So, once again the United States, like an obedient puppy dog, is using its military to enforce a United Nations resolution upon another sovereign nation. When it comes to sending our troops off to war, is this country capable of electing a president who is willing to abide by the Constitution by not sending a single U.S. serviceman off to war without a clear cut declaration of war by Congress? Or, have we become, as many have been saying, part of a New World Order, with our military to be used at the discretion of the United Nations to restore and maintain peace across the planet?

Before I say anything else, there is something I would like everyone to read. Our sixth president, John Quincy Adams once said, “America, in the assembly of nations, since her admission among them, has invariably, though often fruitlessly, held forth to them the hand of honest friendship, of equal freedom, of generous reciprocity… She has, in the lapse of nearly half a century, without a single exception, respected the independence of other nations while asserting and maintaining her own. She has abstained from interference in the concerns of others, even when conflict has been for principles to which she clings, as to the last vital drop that visits the hear …Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be. But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.”

It was NEVER intended that America be the guardian of liberty and democracy for the people of the world. It was NEVER our duty, nor our responsibility, to go abroad and undermine, or overthrow, existing governments and regimes, and install democracies. Nor was it ever our duty or responsibility to send our troops into harm’s way to restore the peace between warring countries or in cases of civil uprising. Yet, here we are, with combat troops currently deployed in two countries, while we are lobbing cruise missiles into a third country.

It is not only the fact that we are engaged in military actions in three countries that has me upset, but we also have troops deployed upon foreign soil all over the planet. Are you aware that the United States operates, or controls, between 700-800 military bases in 63 different countries? Are you aware that there are more than a quarter million U.S. servicemen, and women, deployed to bases in foreign countries? I am sure you are aware that we have bases in the Republic of Korea, guarding that countries northern border in a war that has technically never ended. Why can we send troops to defend another countries border, yet refuse to do the same for our own border?

What is the cost to us, the taxpayer for this globalist showing of U.S. military might? In 1998 the U.S. defense budget was roughly $396 billion. In five short years that amount nearly doubled, reaching $650 billion.

Wikipedia states, “When the budget was signed into law on October 28, 2009, the final size of the Department of Defense’s budget was $680 billion, $16 billion more than President Obama had requested. An additional $37 billion supplemental bill to support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan was expected to pass in the spring of 2010, but has been delayed by the House of Representatives after passing the Senate. Defense-related expenditures outside of the Department of Defense constitute between $319 billion and $654 billion in additional spending, bringing the total for defense spending to between $1.01 and $1.35 trillion in fiscal year 2010.” Excuse me, but a trillion dollars for just one year? Excuse the language, but this is fucking madness!

Thinking back to what John Quincy Adams said I have to ask myself, is history going to remember us as a republic which stood for individual liberty, or as an empire which tried to force other nations to accept democracy.

Getting back to Libya for a moment, sure Muammar Gaddafi is a ruthless dictator who is using his control over the military to squelch an uprising by people seeking liberty. But, does that justify our intervention in the internal affairs of a sovereign nation?

If that be the case, why haven’t we used our military to aid the uprising in Bahrain, particularly when Saudi Arabia has deemed it necessary to send its military in to support the existing government there? After all, isn’t Bahrain of vital interest to the U.S., being home to the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet?

Or could it be that because our good buddies, the Saudi Arabians have deemed the unrest in Bahrain to harmful to their best interests, that we have decided not involve ourselves in the internal affairs of that nation as well?

This whole idea of U.S. intervention and this global war on terror is repugnant to me. I do not deny that there are people out there who despise our way of life, our freedom and our liberties, that are as limited as they now are. But what good is installing democracies in these countries going to do?

And, lest people forget, we invaded Iraq and Afghanistan. Yet, if you believe the official reports, the 9/11 hijackers were predominantly Saudi Arabian citizens, with a couple from Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. Osama Bin Laden is also Saudi, and according to reports, a good portion of Al Qaeda’s funding comes from Saudi Arabia as well. Why didn’t we invade Saudi Arabia instead? We were told that Iraq posed a threat due to its WMD program. We were told Afghanistan had numerous training camps.

If you ask me, I think Bush just wanted Saddam Hussein’s head on a platter, and that is the only reason we went into Iraq. But now that we are there, we have to justify it by coming up with lie after lie account for our invasion of their country.

And, as far as Afghanistan goes, it is my belief that the Taliban had shut down production of opium, and the CIA just wanted those opium fields back in production. But those are my thoughts, and I am just some radical who mistrusts his government in almost all respects.

My whole point in writing this article is to get people to ask themselves, when is this crap going to stop? When is the U.S. going to stop following the dictates of the United Nations? When is the U.S. going to stop sending its troops off to settle disputes in foreign lands?

Who are we going to attack next, Syria, North Korea, maybe even China? With all our troops deployed in these foreign lands, what would we do if someone decided we were vulnerable enough to be attacked on our own soil? Could we defend ourselves if that happened? After all, isn’t that the purpose of the military, to defend the United States?

Or maybe, if that happens, we can go crawling on our hands and knees to our good buddies at the U.N. and beg that they send someone to defend us. Then again, maybe that is exactly what they want, a vulnerable U.S. who could be easily controlled by the stationing of foreign troops upon its soil.

These are just a few of the things that have been crossing my mind lately as I see our military once again being used for purposes it was never intended it be used for. What have you been thinking about?
