Cantor: Seniority Be Damned

A lady by the name of Megan Sampson was named the outstanding first year teacher in Wisconsin. One week later this lady received a layoff notice from the Milwaukee Public Schools.

Why you ask, would one our best and brightest new teachers in the state, be among the first to be cut?

Aha, therein methinks, lies the rub.

Her collective-bargaining contract requires staffing decisions to be made based on SENIORITY!

Let us take a look at that collective-bargaining agreement, it costs the taxpayers of Wisconsin $101,091 per year for each teacher, protects a 0% contribution for health-insurance premiums and forces schools to hire and fire based on seniority and union rules.

Does this make any sense? I thought not, at least not if you went past the third grade, but the thugs who run the unions think it makes perfect sense.
What the Governor of Wisconsin and his GOP colleagues has done is passed a bill through the assembly which when passed in the Senate, reforms this union-controlled hiring and firing process by allowing school districts to assign staff based on merit and performance. That will keep great teachers like Ms. Sampson in the classroom.

Several folks that I attended college with became teachers, and did so out of a desire to impart knowledge to eager young minds wanting to learn, and G-d bless them for that desire.

Under the present system a lot of these highly motivated teachers soon realize that the union has them right by the (you know what) and won’t let go, and in many cases people with more seniority but a lot lest qualifications and motivation wind up with the promotion and/or get to remain while people like Ms. Sampson are laid off.

Unions were a boon to the working man back in the 1920s and 1930s but they have since become a millstone around the neck of the country.

You are required in many cases to belong to a union and you are required to pay dues like it or not, next step, the union leadership contributes your dues money heavily to the Democratic party to get them elected, next step the union rep is negotiating a labor contract across the table from the guy he helped elect is there any question in your mind how it is going to go? I thought not. A stacked deck all the way.

One only has to open their eyes and take a good look at all the yelling, screaming, shoving and outright thuggery going on at the State Capitol in Wisconsin, including the death threats against the Gop legislators who voted to override the union strangle hold.

Richard Trumka the thug in chief of AFL/CIO makes a nice living at over $240,000.00 per year so he doesn’t have to care who gets laid off or in what order, at least it doesn’t look like he has missed any meals lately judging by the size of his belly.

Hey Trumka why don’t you get a real job instead of being a professional rabble rouser like your buddy Obummer?

WAKE UP AMERICA!!!
