Why persuade or vote when you can rule by fiat?

Over the past year, it has become obvious that what leftists cannot win at the ballot box, they will accomplish via bureaucratic dictate. After the U.S. Senate in 2009 rejected the massive cap-and-tax scheme on carbon credits, the Obama administration rode to the rescue of global-warming fanatics. On Dec. 7, 2009, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa P. Jackson issued a ruling that the EPA would begin regulating five “anthropogenic” (man-made) greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, the air we exhale. The EPA based its finding on research from the now discredited U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and rejected at least 10 petitions for reconsideration.

Not since the Civil War has America been in such grave peril. Then it was on the precipice of splitting into two opposing nations with vastly differing positions on slavery and state’s rights. Today, it faces an even greater threat. It has been besieged, not by cannon fire and muskets between brother and brother, but by a failed ideology that has swept the planet and is on the verge of collapsing almost every world economy.

So much for optimism this new year.

It only took the Republican’s about two months to breach their “Pledge to the People.”

A judge once admonished me in court, to keep my mouth shut after I had won the case, a good lesson for the Republican’s to learn also.

The greatest absurdity has been the belief that human beings have any influence over the planet on which they live.

The Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the fifth largest of the Solar System’s four terrestrial planets. It is the only planet that sustains life as we know it and humans came late to the party.

Well, 2010 is now relegated to the history books, with the inevitable Life Magazine’s 2010 in photos. The coming of a new year always seems to be cause for great celebration. Maybe it is hope that fuels the urge in people to bring in the new year with a huge celebration. Whatever, I never feel any amount of joy at the start of a new year, only melancholy and a sense of dread at what lies ahead.
