Ross: Something To Think About
“A man’s country is not a certain area of land, of mountains, rivers, and woods, but it is a principle; and patriotism is loyalty to that principle.” – George William Curtis
Sometimes when I write I have a clear cut idea as to what I am going to write about. Other times I just begin with a thought and go from there. This time, as I sit here, I have no idea what I am about to say, nor how to say it. I feel as though I am being bombarded by a wide range of emotions. I feel fear, sadness, a hint of depression. But most of all, I feel this overwhelming sense of anger.
Wherever I go I see people happily going about life, completely unaware of how perilous our nation’s future is. Lately, with increasing frequency, I find myself getting the sudden urge to walk up to people and slap the silly smile off their face, to scream at them to wake up, see what the hell is going on around them. I would probably find myself in jail if I did, or at least get my ass kicked, but nevertheless, that is how I feel.
You would think that my anger would be directed at the treasonous scum who call themselves representatives of the people, yet it is primarily the American people to whom my anger is directed. Don’t get me wrong, I do not hate people, I just hate certain traits that they display, first and foremost ignorance and apathy.
Let me try to explain why I say that. Pretend that there was some form of natural disaster in our nation’s capital, say an earthquake, and everyone in our government was suddenly killed. If we were to have elections the following day, the people of this country would undoubtedly vote for another batch, just as greedy and corrupt as those who had perished in the quake.
Nothing in this country would change because the truth is that our elected representatives are only as inept, as corrupt, as guilty of violating the Constitution, as we the people allow them to be.
After observing people’s reactions to my articles I have come to the conclusion that there are four categories of people. There are those who love the truth, and who actively seek it in all things. There are those who are so stupid that they wouldn’t recognize the truth if it walked up and spit in their faces. There are those who say that their lives are too busy to worry about seeking the truth. Then there are those who just don’t care one way or another.
You may not believe it, but I was a fool once, just another ignorant American who went about his daily life, not caring about anything but my own self gratification. I partied, I watched endless hours of mind numbing television shows, and I paid no attention to the affairs of my government.
Although some might consider a curse, I finally woke up, something happened and I began to show an interest in politics. When I was stationed at Vandenberg AFB the military vehicle I used to drive from site to site in had an AM radio that only picked up the local station. So the only thing to listen to in the morning was Rush Limbaugh.
I found that I became glued to his every word. I was convinced that he was right about everything. Now, as I have learned more, I realize that people such as Rush Limbaugh, Bill O Reilly, Lou Dobbs, and more recently, Glenn Beck, are mere mouthpieces for those who wish to keep the people divided along the lines of conservatives versus liberals, right versus left, Republican versus Democrat. The truth is that each party is equally as corrupt, and as guilty of desecrating the Constitution as the other.
I do not listen to Limbaugh or O Reilly anymore, but I have to give them a big thanks for kick starting my ability to begin thinking for myself. Were it not for them I may have remained an ignorant fool the rest of my life. And that, my friends, is my sole intention when I write my articles, to get you to begin doing the same. Believe me, I would much rather be out fishing then spending all these hours in front of my computer.
If I had not begun thinking for myself, I may have become fooled once again. You see, there is another individual who has grown popular among the, so called, alternative media, that being Alex Jones. I can’t speak for Mr. Jones intentions, but something about him struck me as being fishy from the moment I first heard his voice.
I won’t deny that he has done a great deal to awaken some to the dangers posed by outside influences upon our government. His research into the cast of characters behind the plans for a New World Order is to be commended.
However something Mr. Jones said struck me as being totally off the mark. I believe he stated something along the lines that the threat of Islamic terrorism is something that was created by our government to instill fear in us and a tool to be used to impose new laws and new restrictions upon our rights.
I won’t deny the fact that our government has used the threat of terrorism to restrict our freedoms, but to say that Islam, or the threat they pose is fictional…tell that to those who have lost their heads to the swords of these so called fictional terrorists.
To say that Islam poses a fictional threat is akin to saying that crime is something that was also made up by government solely to restrict our rights to own firearms and to impose draconian new laws upon us.
In both cases, the threat exists, it is only the manner in which our government has reacted to them that is a threat to our liberty. Rahm Emanuel once said, “Never let a serious crisis go to waste. What I mean by that is it’s an opportunity to do things you couldn’t do before.” That is the manner in which every infringement of our rights has been promulgated. Our government has used each crisis as an excuse to further enlarge its power, and in so doing, restrict our freedom.
Henry Kissinger once said something that I have used from time to time in my articles. I would like to repeat it now, then discuss it a bit more in depth, as it explains the process by which almost every abuse of power that our government is guilty of.
In 1992, in a meeting at Evian France, Henry Kissinger stated, “Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful! This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will pledge with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government.”
I don’t want you to think so much about the prospect of UN troops wandering the streets of Los Angeles enforcing order as much as I do the principle behind that statement. It is crucial that you understand this, so bear with me.
Kissinger stated that there may be an idea that is utterly repulsive to people, one which, under normal circumstance, no would one tolerate. Then, however, he states that if someone were to tell people that their safety, their security, their future, or whatever else they hold dear is at risk, then they would gladly accept the very things they had previously found reprehensible.
Think about that for a moment. Isn’t that exactly the pattern which government has enacted all manner of things? Every time there is a major shooting somewhere, we hear more fear mongering over the private possession of firearms, and then our government passes some new form of gun legislation.
We were told that after 9/11 the threat from terrorism was so great that we needed to rid the world of it. Our fear of another terrorist attack gave our government all the excuse it needed to enter two wars and to pass numerous laws imposing further restrictions of our rights. Yet terrorists still pose as much a threat to us now, as they did prior to these actions.
In 1977 amidst an oil crisis which caused a shortage of fuel at the gas stations, President Jimmy Carter signed into law The Department of Energy Organization Act of 1977 (P.L. 95-91, 91 Stat. 565). Thirty three years later we are still dependant upon foreign oil for much of our fuel needs, and we now have a huge bureaucracy with a proposed 2011 budget of $28 billion.
When our economy suffered its recent financial crisis, we were told that without the governments intervention the economy would collapse. So we ended up getting government bail outs, and takeovers of various industries in the private sector.
Do you see the pattern yet, or, excuse me for being blunt, do I need to shove a flashlight up your ass so that you can see it as well? What was it Kissinger said, “This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will pledge with world leaders to deliver them from this evil.”
This process by which all manner of powers have been assumed by our government works because people refuse to think. They refuse to try and learn what are the underlying causes of all our problems.
Take gun control for instance. Are guns the cause of all the shootings in this country, or is it because we have become an immoral people who do not value life anymore? Who, or what is to blame; the guns, or the people who use them?
There are those who write me and tell me that the type freedom I write about has not been experienced in America for a long time. True, but I can recall a period in my early life when the things our government does today would never have been tolerated by the people who lived 30 or 40 years ago. Yet today people just shrug their shoulders and go about their daily lives as if nothing at all is being done to restrict their liberty.
One final quote and then I will leave you to ponder what I have said. In 1946 Ayn Rand, made some notations prior the re-issuance of her book Anthem.
From those comments I quote the following, and remember, this was half a century ago, ““Social gains,” “social aims,” “social objectives,” have become the daily bromides of our language. The necessity of a social justification for all activities and all existence is now taken for granted. There is no proposal outrageous enough but what its author can get a respectful hearing and approbation if he claims that in some undefined way it is for the “common good.”
Some might think (though I don’t), that nine years ago there was some excuse for men not to see the direction in which the world was going. Today, the evidence is so blatant that no excuse can be claimed by anyone any longer. Those who refuse to see it now are neither blind nor innocent. The greatest guilt today is that of people who accept collectivism by moral default; the people who seek protection from the necessity of taking a stand, by refusing to admit to themselves the nature of that which they are accepting; the people who support plans specifically designed to achieve serfdom, but hide behind the empty assertion that they are lovers of freedom…”
There, I’ve said my piece. I hope that you will give it some thought, and hopefully stop taking anyone’s word for granted, even mine. Spend some time researching the data for yourself, see who is telling you the truth, and who is lying through their teeth.
A word of warning though, should you choose to do this, you may find that you have this overwhelming desire to kick yourself in the ass for being so stupid. Fear not, you will get over it…I did.

body of the people always possess arms,

I got this in an e mail in reply to this article. I tend to agree, but it is not in my nature to give up…
I agree with you and probably would have agreed with you in the summer of 1942 when I was 10 years old and saw wind driven newspapers flying out of barges being towed to sea in the Ambrose Channel to then be dumped offshore in the Hudson Gorge, newspapers that I as a boy probably helped collected as scrap while doing our patriotic duty for the war drive. I and my peers (same age group), were acting as aircraft spotters for the army. I and my peers saw the same thing but none of my peers believed what they saw because “how could FDR be collecting newspapers and then towing them out to sea to be dumped.” It was then that I was exposed to group think and ever since then I have railed against it until recently after 50 years i realized that I was trying to shovel out the ocean by trying to get people to think. Unless you can produce citations of documentation, or evidence or facts to refute what I have just written, I suggest that in tryng to convince most people, you too might as well be trying to shovel the ocean dry.
