Miller: Take a Moment – Consider Truth
Is there really any real fundamental truth or is everything left to do as its pleasure dictates? Consider the world you experience around you. Are there any absolute truths found there? Can you see instances of absolute truth in action? What you think about this subject of truth is very important. If we believe there is no absolute truth at work in the world, we would live in a very different world than one where absolute truth was at work.
At the most fundamental level, we can consider absolute truth to be the laws that govern the elementary particles that make up the world around us. Are there such fundamental laws that govern the stuff that makes up our world and the universe? By inference we must conclude there are such laws, such truths, else the world as we know it could not exist. For a copper atom, to be a copper atom, it must always follow very strict laws … how many protons and neutrons that it can allow in its nucleus and how many electrons must rotate around it as well as how it will relate to other atoms around it. The same holds true for every atom in the universe. Each is governed by very rigid and exacting physical laws. Because these laws are unchanging and absolute they form the body of truth governing the lives of atoms. We might think that this is well and good for an atom, but does the same type of innate law exist for the higher order things of the world … the things that the atoms make up?
The answer to that question seems to be yes. We observe that there are rigid laws, truths, at work in how these various atoms can combine with one another. For example the atom sodium can combine and form a relationship with chlorine gas to form common table salt while it can not form a relationship with hydrogen gas. There are very definite laws, which are truths, about which atoms can combine with one another and how they are to combine. Without such rigid laws in place in the world, we would have absolutely no idea on what was going to come out of our salt shakers when we went about preparing our food. Life would become totally chaotic.
These same basic building blocks, which as we have seen, are regulated by very rigid laws, form everything, including all life forms on the planet. As we observe the lives of what we call lower life forms do we find the same adherence to innate laws in them as we do in the atoms and compounds they are comprised of, or are these higher order things exempt from living lives under any fundamental laws? Observing the natural living world around us, it must be inferred that they do live within a rigid set of laws … of truths. Further, we will see that if these innate laws of life are disregarded that destruction and death follow. The tree of the field has a time to form leaves and a time to drop its leaves. It has a season when it produces seeds and a season when seed production does not take place. It makes branches, always in certain patterns, which allow it the greatest possibility of capturing sun light when they are filled with the leaves of their season. All these things are the natural law, the truth of the trees. The same process occurs in animal life. Each animal has a specific diet containing a limited range of things it can eat and it knows which things must be avoided. There is a time to reproduce and a time to nurture. When different living things live in close proximity to one another, when they make up an ecosystem, there are very definite rules of behavior each exhibit towards one another in the community. All these laws of nature are innate. They do not have to be learned, they are known at birth. The atom, the molecules, the tree, the animals of the field do not have to be taught the laws they are to live by. They were given these laws as they came into existence. These laws … these truths, which they follow during the course of their existence are as much apart of them as their limbs, branches, paws, tails, hands, or feet. What about humankind? Do we likewise have a code of laws … of truths, which we were born with and were designed to follow during the course of our lives? Or are we an exception to law … to a truth to live our lives by? Are we free to do as we so please any time and any place we might choose to do it?
Observing the world around us, we can not find even a single instance of any natural thing, either living or nonliving, which is not bound by a set of fundamental natural laws which are the truths, which governs their behavior. If such were not the case, there would be no order and we would find ourselves in the midst of utter chaos, with everyone and everything doing as it pleased them whenever they wanted to do it with no regards to their effects on the environment around them. So it must asked, does it make any sense … is it logical that … one species alone would be set apart from having any innate laws … truths, by which it is to live by? The only logical answer is no. There is no reason to think that the human species should be any different than everything else around it whether it be living and nonliving. It is senseless to think that in a world operating under the truth of law such as ours is that a rogue life form would be allowed to exist. If such a rogue element were to exist, it would upset the order and balance of everything else. Humankind is no exception. It has a set of laws which are very much a part of its makeup as does everything else in existence. It is interesting that in the scripture at Jer 31:33 in the New American Standard Bible we read about the law being written within us. It says, “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the LORD, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”
If we have a truth somewhere written within us why do so few seem to realize it or find it? Why are we running around continually saying, “I am a truth seeker,” “I am looking for the truth?” All this dog chasing its tail activity looking for the truth … it’s all vanity. We already have the truth needed to live fulfilled and joyful lives written within us, like everything else in the world does. It is written in every one of our cells. The problem is, we have either been tricked into ignoring that inner voice of truth within, or into disbelieving it and in thinking some other purported outside truth is superior. Friend, we have been sold a bill of goods. Until we realize that fact and reacquaint ourselves with the truth we already have and were born with, our human condition will not improve. As that innate truth, written in every organism of the ecosystem, is followed what is observed? We see an uncanny harmony, organization, and beautiful arrangement between all its members. Since we have allowed ourselves to be tricked into no longer listening to the laws, the truths we were born with, we live mediocre lives filled with unhappiness, depression, strife, war, lies, and deception. This does not only affect ourselves but everything else on the planet since everything is in one way or another is interdependent on everything else. By no longer living out the laws … the truths of our birth right, we have become a rogue species, disrupting everything else in the world. Those sincere truth seekers, must rid themselves of the lies they have allowed themselves to believe as the truth. Those lies have displaced the innate truth we were born to live by. When we can allow ourselves to do this, then we as individuals and as nations of individuals can live in harmony and peace not only within ourselves but within the larger community of things both living and nonliving in the world around us.
Looking for real fundamental truth within the ideas of men is folly and a snare. Consider the nature of the world around you. Everything in existence has a mirror image opposite which is a counterbalance to it. For every night there is a day. For every winter there is a summer. For every north there is a south. For every up there is a down. Since our brains are made up of the same stuff of the world, it manifest the same way. Our brains can create, but when they create something, they don’t just create the thing or idea we desired, but by their very nature, they also create the opposite to that thing or idea we created. That is why every word, which represents an idea, we come up with also has an antonym or opposite. We can’t help but create the opposition to the good idea we wish to promote at the same time, it’s the nature of things. Therefore, looking for any real or fundamental truth within the philosophy, belief systems, and other ideas of mankind is a folly. The only place where absolute fundamental truth, the truth by which to live, can be found is that which is hard wired within us at our conception and birth.
The writer urges you to ponder these things deeply. How we respond to these questions on fundamental truth and law will determine either our destiny or demise. Yes, we have a choice to make. We either choose to once again wake up to and live by the innate law … truth, which is our birth right or we choose to continue to be deceived by the so called truths of men, of doctors, of clergy, and an endless list of professionals. We do not need to go any further than within our own hearts to discover the real truth we claim to be seeking.
Least we never forget, governments and men who want to have control over men can only gain that control over them if they are perceived to be or have the law … the truth by which we are to live by. When we allow the corrupt seed of deception to enter our hearts and begin to deny the innate truths we are all born with, we forfeit our birth right, and we will be destined to live lives under some form of tyranny.
