TARGET: Massachusetts II – If Brown Wins…

target_thumbJanuary 18, 2010 – As a traditional and constitutional conservative, I have to admit to mixed feelings with regard to the Senate race that will be decided tomorrow in Massachusetts.  Don’t get me wrong:  I want Republican candidate Brown to win, but if he does it might just be more of a wake-up call to the entire Democratic Party than I’d like to see happen before the November elections occur.

If Brown wins, a number of longtime established Democrats will finally see the writing on the wall and take steps to distance themselves from the current health care reform catastrophe they are currently crafting.  The negotiations between the House and Senate are resulting in some bizarre and plainly unconstitutional agreements that will probably meet total destruction in the Supreme Court, like giving union members special tax breaks that no non-union-affiliated citizens will be eligible for, and by allowing the Amish not to participate on religious grounds.  The way these idiots are negotiating, you’d think we didn’t have a Constitution at all, and that means any health care reform they might come up with will probably be suspended from being implemented until the Supreme Court decides what is allowed.

If Brown wins on Tuesday, he can certainly pose a temporary roadblock to a 60-vote advantage in the Senate, but if the Dems decide to go the reconciliation route they’ll only need 51 votes to force the issue anyway.  That means a Brown win does not necessarily mean we won’t get stuck with health care reform anyway, but such a shocking win in the most blue, liberal Democratic state in the Union will absolutely get the Dems’ attention and give at least some of them time to rethink and apply damage control before November.

If the current health care reform gets passed as mainly intact, the massive loss of Democratic seats in November could be more damaging to the Dems than what they suffered in 1994 after President Bill Clinton signed the failed ”Assault Weapon Ban”, and could potentially allow a Republican/Independent controlled Congress to reverse any Democrat-sponsored health care bill.  Heck, enough seats could go to Republican/Independent candidates that they could override any veto threatened by President Obama as well.

That is why I have mixed feelings about a Brown win now.

I am also a bit concerned about the kind of Republican candidates who might take those seats currently held by Dems.  If we elect a bunch of radical fascist NeoCon Republicans like we did with the GW Bush Administration disaster, we could inadvertently cause Barack Obama to be re-elected to a second term.

There is no question that most of the Tea Party folks were just as appalled by Bush as they are by Obama, and I will write it again until it sinks into all those closed minds out there:  Had we not elected Bush to a second term, Barack Obama would not be president today.  If you voted to re-elect Bush, you unintentionally ushered in an Obama presidency.  I know a lot of people get really angry when they read that, but that shoe fits!  With what Bush did, you had a duty to turn Bush out of office, and far too many so-called conservatives just flat abrogated that duty.

So we now have a golden opportunity to make our past mistakes right by making sure that any Republican/Independent we elect to replace the current Congress are solid constitutionists and solid conservatives, and not a bunch of Bush/Cheney types, who showed just as much contempt for the Constitution as any Democratic-controlled Congress ever did — and probably worse!

Time will tell if that lesson has been learned.

Many conservatives assume that if the Dems pass the healthcare bill then they will lose big in November, after which defeat the bill will be defeated by the new Congressional majority.

    Unfortunately, it ain’t so.

If the bill passes it may well become a point of no return. Never mind the obvious difficulty with repealing Democrat-passed quasi/neo-socialist legislation (it hardly ever happened in the past), the new momentum can easily lead to the emergence of government-controlled public sector of healthcare and the largest labor union of public helathcare workers.

And as soon as such a union becomes a fact of life, they will decide most of future election and extort their conservative opponents to financial death. (They do just that in California these days.)

An event like that could easily solidify the future of the U.S. as a neo-socialist country until its inevitable economic collapse – a really scary scenario.

So, in your noble intention to strive for the best, please play it safely.

Carl, you are SO right. I can see what you’re thinking -that it would be soooooo nice to totally blindside the corrupt bastards all at once come November… But that ain’t possible -I don’t think…

But Brown did win ,by quite a good margin.. so here we go… th’ cat’s outta the bag.

” Had we not elected Bush to a second term, Barack Obama would not be president today. If you voted to re-elect Bush, you unintentionally ushered in an Obama presidency.”

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT M’ friend. You are SO right on this one it hurts to think about it.

IMHO, Bush pissed off so many ‘middle-of-the-roaders in his eight years of incompetent and corrupt arrogance, that ‘just to spite him’, they swung waaaaaaaaaay left to Preziden’ ‘NObama -shooting themselves squarely in the ass in the process.
Not toooo bright, -but then, look around you -everywhere you go, and I DO mean everywhere, and what do you see?

    S.T.U.P.I.D.

    -everywhere. well duh…

Good piece Carl, “you said your piece”! -and thanks .

keep on keepin’ on, and enjoy that ‘CeeGar’

Yeah, a Brown win is sorta like buying a quart of milk at 7-11 until you can get to walmart to buy a gallon.
I keep hearing Brown is a Rino, and it will be up to the conservatives in Mass to hold his nose to the stone. I guess we can only pray that he is not another Soros puppet.
