Thompson: Health care ‘reform’ is Obama’s Waterloo

obama_thumb_01President Barack Obama may regret making health care “reform” the benchmark of his Presidency.

If the bastard child of the Senate legislative morass that passed on a 60-40 party line vote becomes law it will stand in history as the benchmark of failure for Obama’s over-promised, under-performing, one-term Presidency.

Longstreet: Americans Are Mad As Hell!

39_steps_blogThe Last time Americans were this mad, they were colonists and the government, to which they were tethered, was across the Atlantic, in England, and paid no mind to the “bitching” Americans. Today the government is in Washington, DC. Little else has changed!

The end result of the first scenario above was revolution. The end result of the second scenario above may be the same thing!

Supremes: ‘Suspected Enemy Combatant’ no Longer a ‘Person’

touch_evil_blogDred Scott redux:
Enemy combatants denied legal standing… once again, 144 years after the Civil War, we have established as the law of the land and the policy of the United States government that whole classes of people can be declared ‘non-persons’ and have their liberty stripped away…

While we were all out doing our Christmas shopping, the highest court in the land quietly put the kibosh on a few more of the remaining shards of human liberty.

It happened earlier this week, in a discreet ruling that attracted almost no notice and took little time.

From the Front

The following has been read in a thread of comments, primarily left by members of the U.S. Military serving overseas. The thread has now been closed, but the words ring true… (JB)

gi_thumbI  glance at the area around my ass every ten to fifteen seconds to avoid another scorpion sting. I’ve actually given up battling the chiggers and sand fleas, but them scorpions give a jolt like a cattle prod. Hurts like a bastard. The antidote tastes like transmission fluid, but God bless the Marine Corps for the five vials of it in my pack.

The one truth the Taliban cannot escape is that, believe it or not, they are human beings, which means they have to eat food and drink water. That requires couriers and that’s where an old bounty hunter like me comes in handy. I track the couriers, locate the tunnel entrances and storage facilities, type the info into the handheld, and shoot the coordinates up to the satellite link that tells the air commanders where to drop the hardware. We bash some heads for a while, and then I track and record the new movement. It’s all about intelligence.

Dwyer: The Decline of Manners

dwyer_thumbGood manners are on decline. Rules of etiquette are being ignored. Boorish and disrespectful behavior, even bullying, become more and more prevalent in workplace and in public square. Rap “music” has been declared an art to which the entire generation of youngsters is exposed. You may watch on TV people screaming at each other, resorting to abusive or inflammatory language, and engaging in other breaches of civilized conduct, let alone their nonconforming looks and body language, but that kind of misbehavior was unseen on silver screen just a few decades ago. Are we, Americans, progressing towards social primitivism?

Alexander: The Time Has Come

“It is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth– and listen to the song of that syren, till she transforms us into beasts. … Are we disposed to be of the number of those, who having eyes, see not, and having ears, hear not?” – Patrick Henry

point_blank_blogThe 2008 presidential election was much more than a referendum on the two candidates; it was a referendum on the ability of a majority of Americans voters to discern between one candidate who possessed the character and integrity of a statesman, and one who did not.

A year ago, a majority of our countrymen were hoodwinked into electing a charlatan with dubious credentials to the highest constitutional office in the land. Since then, millions of Americans who had become complacent about the Leftist threat to our liberty have begun to realize that our Constitution is now suffering an unprecedented assault.

Baroud: The Lobby Within

israel_thumb_new_1A just and peaceful solution to the protracted Palestinian-Israeli conflict is only possible when the US ceases to block every attempt made towards it.

This assertion might raise many questions, for example, just how is one to define a just and peaceful resolution? And for what reasons would the US obstruct such a possibility, considering that stability in the Middle East is, or at least should be a top American priority?

Like Thieves In The Night

spy-vs-spy_thumbIn the early hours of the morning, as most of the nation slept, the United States Senate gathered together to cast their vote on cloture, (the ending of all debate) on their version of the health care reform bill.

After a touching speech by Majority Leader Harry Reid in which he read of the plight of his constituents, the motion went to a vote. Shortly thereafter, at 1:17 a.m. the motion was passed and, like thieves in the night, the Senate has moved one step closer to passing this bill.

Johnson: A Soldier’s Christmas Gift

csa_flags_comp_blogChristmas is a wonderful time to celebrate with family, friends and supper at Grandma’s house. Grandpa will gather the children around the fire place and tell them the story of Jesus Christ who was born on Christmas Day while Grandma makes ginger bread cookies and Daddy brings the Christmas tree in the family room for decorating. Mamma as always will lead us in the singing of ‘Silent Night—Holy Night’ as the Star of Bethlehem is placed on top of the tree.

90 years ago, during the year 1919, one year after the end of World War I, the people of Atlanta , Georgia were celebrating the Christmas Season. Many people attended Church or Synagogue and gave thanks to God for his many blessings. Folks, while shopping, were uplifted by sweet sounds of Christmas music played by the Salvation Army Band. There was a friendly and charitable atmosphere during this time of the year.

There were, however, some who were not as fortunate!
