Meekins: The Moral Argument For God

gantry_thumb_newThe early 21st century stands as a period of profound moral confusion. On the one hand, mothers and doctors are permitted to crack open the skulls and suck out the brains of nearly-born babies with government sanction under the banner of partial birth abortion. Should these very same people hike into the woods and crack open a bald eagle egg, they could face serious prison time.

It would therefore seem that contemporary society is marked by two seemingly contradictory extremes — that of extreme license and that of excessive control. However, upon closer inspection it could be concluded that these conditions are not as contradictory as the situation might originally appear.

Avery: What’s the REAL Cost of Global Warming Taxes?

opinion_blogCHURCHVILLE, VA — The leftish Brookings Institution and the U. S. Chamber of Commerce basically agree that the energy taxes in the House Waxman-Markey bill could total $9 trillion over ten years. As an economist, I look at these forecasts and wonder “How can we possibly know?”

These estimates cover only the costs of the “user permits” that companies will have to buy. They don’t even try to measure the massive reduction in our economic output as energy costs double and triple with scarcity.

Metcalf: Control Freaks

“…When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice – you may know that your society is doomed.”Ayn Rand

eye_on_america_newObama is not the cause of government overreach and the push for socialism. He is merely a symptom (and excuse) for implementing a long term objective of the far left faction of the Democrat Party.

Worst case scenario: if the liberal democrats were ever able to codify their “womb to tomb” control of Americans without precipitating an armed revolt, it would fail…and Obama (not Pelosi, Reid, or their uber-liberal co-conspirators) would become the historic scapegoat for the eventual collapse of the republic.

It’s alive! End-of-life counseling in health bill

potomacOctober 29, 2009: WASHINGTON (AP) – It’s alive. The Medicare end-of-life planning provision that 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin said was tantamount to “death panels” for seniors is staying in the latest Democratic health care bill unveiled Thursday.

The provision allows Medicare to pay for voluntary counseling to help beneficiaries deal with the complex and painful decisions families face when a loved one is approaching death.

For years, federal laws and policies have encouraged Americans to think ahead about end-of-life decisions, and make their wishes known in advance through living wills and similar legal documents.

Sowell: Dismantling America

39_steps_blogJust one year ago, would you have believed that an unelected government official — not even a Cabinet member confirmed by the Senate, but simply one of the many “czars” appointed by the President — could arbitrarily cut the pay of executives in private businesses by 50 percent or 90 percent?

Did you think that another “czar” would be talking about restricting talk radio? That there would be plans afloat to subsidize newspapers — that is, to create a situation where some newspapers’ survival would depend on the government liking what they publish?

Marr: Speaker From The Black Lagoon

feldmanIs it just me, or is Nancy Pelosi starting to look more and more like Marty Feldman? Every time I hear that grating voice it seems as if she has ventured further into the world of cartoon and satire, as if someone hooked Smurfette up to a thorazine drip. Those leviathan eyes grow in size with each passing hour, bugging out two feet in front of her body, like somebody dropped a toaster in the water while Nancy’s thyroid was taking a bath.

I could handle the appearance of this most odious of politicians with tact and grace, if such were the only thing wrong with her. We all have our physical imperfections, and far be it from me to judge another upon their looks, or lack thereof.

Ewart: Yes Virginia, There Are True Americans

postman_ewartWhen you set pen to paper, or in our case, words to a computer screen and you have the privilege of being able to share those words with a large audience, you have no way of knowing how those words, mental images or ideas will affect others.   However, once in a while, a response to those words will bounce in from no where and you get an inkling of how they have impacted one person, at least.  Such was the case the other day when we received a response from a gentleman from West Virginia, to our article entitled, What If The Left Keeps Squeezing?

We’d like to share with you his opening comments:
