Ewart: Constitution Day – What Constitution?

postman_ewartThe ink was barely dry on the constitution when efforts began to change it.  Not all were in agreement with its original content and thought it could be improved.  Alexander Hamilton wanted more power in the central government.  Most others wanted the lions share of the power to rest with the states and the people.

Judicial tests of the constitution started almost immediately.  In 1801 a celebrated case was brought to the U. S. Supreme Court in Maybury vs. Madison and was the first time the Supreme Court declared something unconstitutional.  The court established the concept of judicial review in the U.S. (the idea that courts may oversee and nullify the actions of another branch of government).

There Appears To Be A Misunderstanding

ross_jeff_thumbMy last two commentaries sure stirred up quite a ruckus. Those who responded unfavorably to what I said seem think that I am putting forth the call for all freedom loving Americans to take up arms against anyone we disagree with.

One of these individuals put forth a lot of effort to write a commentary about what I had said. He believed that there must be a plan, and we must have leaders who can outline the plan. He believed that our best course is to unite all true conservatives together under common leadership that will speak for the masses.

Another individual said that I am willing to take up arms over my personal disagreement over policy issues and that I should work within the system while a peaceful alternative remains available.

McCullagh: Cap and trade could cost families $1,761 a year

potomacThe Obama administration has privately concluded that a cap and trade law would cost American taxpayers up to $200 billion a year, the equivalent of hiking personal income taxes by about 15 percent.

A previously unreleased analysis prepared by the U.S. Department of Treasury says the total in new taxes would be between $100 billion to $200 billion a year.

Hirschhorn: Corporate Corruption Killing America

eye_on_america_newAnyone smart and strong enough to fight delusional thinking and who pays attention to current events should clearly see that corporate corruption of the US political system is so pervasive and powerful that there will be no genuine reform of both the health care and financial sectors.

I always believed that president Obama was just a different color corrupt politician who was subservient to the two-party plutocracy.  His so-called reform efforts and ludicrous federal deficit spending should disappoint all his non-delusional supporters.

Metcalf: Media malaise – Self Inflicted wounds

opinion_blogThe latest Pew Research surveys indicate that Americans’ views of media bias and independence now match previous lows. It is a self inflicted wound and not big surprise.

”Just 29% of Americans say that news organizations generally get the facts straight, while 63% say that news stories are often inaccurate.”

Several years ago I interviewed Bernie Goldberg after his book ‘Bias’ was released. Goldberg underscored the bias point when he told me,

We have gone from a president who claimed to have smoked pot, but didn’t inhale, to a president who smoked pot in his youth, but now just smokes cigarettes, and solves problems over a beer.

We have a selective justice system where some people may be guilty of a crime, while these same laws may not apply to elitists.

“Crimes and Justice,” seem to be synonymous with “Government and “Corruption” these days, and in order for the people to pursue happiness, we must find ways to prevent an intrusive, abusive, overreaching government, to consume us, as we are being surreptitiously moved by an out of control government, into a Socialistic dictatorship.

The psycho babbling psychiatrists, and law enforcement experts, claim that Jeffrey Dahmer fit the profile of a serial killer, and if the alarm had been sounded early, seventeen murders may have been prevented.

Let Me Set The Record Straight

ross_jeff_thumbA Patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.

The writings of our nation’s founding fathers are full of similar comments as the above quote by Edward Abbey. They all felt, as did Samuel Adams, that, “The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks.”

Often people peruse over our nations historical documents without actually paying attention to the words being used. The founders were quite meticulous with their choices of words, each word was chosen carefully to express a particular meaning.

For instance, from the Declaration of Independence we read, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” 

Caruba: The Fine Art of American Protest

point_blank_blogThere have been many mass marches on Washington, D.C., so the locals know how to make plans to anticipate the congestion and the police are polite and skillful in the science of crowd control. They can afford to be polite because the crowds, no matter how large, are too.

Oh, sure, they shout a lot, but that’s what a protest march is all about. Back in April 1894 unemployed workers known as “Coxey’s Army” showed up to demand that Congress do something. It was the second year of an economic depression that would last another two years, but it was the worst that had hit the nation barely three decades since the end of the Civil War.

Americans know where to head when they are at odds with their government and most know or suspect that the source of their problems can be found in Washington, D.C. and they are always right.
