WEXTRY! WEXTRY!: Electing a Moron

obama_newmanIt’s not that long ago that former President George W. Bush was being characterized as a dimwit. In truth, because he was not a smooth talker, he often came across as less than a deep thinker. I am not sure the job requires a deep thinker because those who fit that description often turned out to be a disaster. The job’s best description is “leader.”

It is important to remember that the decade in which Bush served was one of consumer confidence, a healthy economy, marred initially by 9/11 and later by the decision to invade Iraq and depose a vicious despot who had warred with Iran and invaded Kuwait. Many Americans grew tired of the war and the subsequent occupation.

Dinner with Obama – a Parable

obama_thumb_01Once upon a time, I was invited to the White House for a private dinner with the President. I am a respected businessman, with a factory that produces memory chips for computers and portable electronics. There was some talk that my industry was being scrutinized by the administration, but I paid it no mind. I live in a free country. There’s nothing that the government can do to me if I’ve broken no laws. My wealth was earned honestly, and an invitation to dinner with an American President is an honor.

I checked my coat, was greeted by the Chief of Staff, and joined the President in a yellow dining room. We sat across from each other at a table draped in white linen. The Great Seal was embossed on the china. Uniformed staff served our dinner.

Playboy Interview, 1964: Ayn Rand

39_steps_blogPLAYBOY: Miss Rand, your novels and essays, especially your controversial best seller, Atlas Shrugged, present a carefully engineered, internally consistent world view. They are, in effect, the expression of an all-encompassing philosophical system. What do you seek to accomplish with this new philosophy?

RAND: I seek to provide men — or those who care to think — with an integrated, consistent and rational view of life.

PLAYBOY: What are the basic premises of Objectivism? Where does it begin?

RAND: It begins with the axiom that existence exists, which means that an objective reality exists independent of any perceiver or of the perceiver’s emotions, feelings, wishes, hopes or fears.

Oldest known Bible goes online

bible_02_thumbLONDON, England (CNN) — The world’s oldest known Christian Bible goes online Monday — but the 1,600-year-old text doesn’t match the one you’ll find in churches today.

Discovered in a monastery in the Sinai desert in Egypt more than 160 years ago, the handwritten Codex Sinaiticus includes two books that are not part of the official New Testament and at least seven books that are not in the Old Testament.

Narco-Terrorism: American Style

touch_evil_blogJuly 6, 2009On a hot summer evening, in a bar in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico just across the bridge from Laredo, Texas; a thirty year-old man, on his knees, surrounded by a dozen armed guards, can be heard begging for his life, he cries for one more chance to make it right with the boss, one more chance to see his family—one more chance at life.

His boss happens to be the man who dictates the life and death of every soul in the Laredo corridor, listens to the pleas but has already made up his mind. He stands as judge and jury in this court and it’s clear, he’s heard enough. So he pulls a diamond studded, pearl handled pistol from his belt and slowly hands it over to one of his newest recruits. He tells the recruit to put a bullet in the condemned mans head as he sobs uncontrollably—and so, without hesitation the young man pulls the trigger four times over.

Ewart: What Do Americans Really Want?

ewart_blogJuly 6, 2009 - Good Lord!  Just how dumb can we be?  Government has been playing the American people like a bunch of marionettes for the last 100 years, pulling the strings one way and then pulling them another, to fit some particular power-grabbing agenda.  And boy have they been successful.  Just about every special-interest group in America has been bought off by government with money from the public treasury, or outright favors from the U. S. Congress.  The states, cities and counties have been bought off.  The poor have been bought off.  The blacks have been bought off.  The Latinos have been bought off.  The farmers have been bought off.  The seniors have been bought off.  Business has been bought off.  Unions have been bought off and finally, homeowners have been bought off.  Bought off with your hard earned money that government steals from you by the force of law and invokes severe penalties and even jail time, if you don’t comply.

Joe Legal vs. Jose Illegal

visas_blogHere is an example of why hiring illegal aliens is not economically productive for the State of California … but then, why should this be restricted to the Land of Fruits and Nuts?

You have 2 families…”Joe Legal” and “Jose Illegal”.

Both families have 2 parents, 2 children and live in California …

Caruba: As California Goes…

opinion_blogJuly 5, 2009As a lifelong resident of New Jersey, one of the most fiscally imprudent states, it may be deemed unfair for me to say bad things about California, but having lived in a state that has “been there, done that” it also endows me with an understanding of what happens when a state is taken over by its public service unions and indulges in stupid environmental policies that have nothing to do with a sound economy.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared an economic crisis last week in order to demand some fiscal sanity that has not been forthcoming from its legislature. By the end of the month, California will be forced to pay bills with IOUs and we all know that won’t work.

How Did You Spend July 4, 2009?

“It does not take a majority to prevail … but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brush fires of freedom in the minds of men.”Samuel Adams

ross_neal_0808July 4, 2009, two hundred thirty three years after our founders signed the Declaration of Independence. All day long, as I went about my affairs, I looked at the people who passed me by and wondered, do they have any idea what this day represents?

As I watered the plants in my back yard I could hear people laughing and swimming in their pools while the smell of charcoal and grilled meat filled the air. I wondered, do they understand what this day is supposed to mean?
