The Witch Doctah: Part Deux

samedi_thumbJuly 17, 2009 - In the general scheme of things, we as Americans have been had. There will be no more CHOICE in health – only in which Witch Doctah you are allowed to visit.

Can you imagine what must be in this medical kit, this modern version of the “little black bag”? Could this Doctah specialize in Gynecology? or Colonoscopy? I think that it’s already been done to us.

Ewart: How Can We Undo It?

postman_ewartJuly 17, 2009 – Row after row, shelf after shelf and volume after volume, of law, after law, after law, fills the libraries in Washington DC and in major libraries across America.  We are a country under the rule of law alright, but we have taken law and rule making to the extreme edge of absurdity, if not insanity.

The Federal Register represents 80,700 pages, as of 2008.  The United States Code is perched on multiple shelves and is 16,845 pages, according to the government printing office.  The United States Tax Code, Title 26, part of the United States Code, is 3,387 pages all by itself.  This doesn’t even begin to cover the millions of pages of state and local laws, regulations, restrictions and ordinances, or the number of laws we add to the mix each year.  But what is even worse, most of these laws, regulations and ordinances are patently without constitutional authority.

Baroud: Gaza and the Language of Power

israel_thumb_new_1July 17, 2009 – Nearly six months have passed since the Israeli army ceased pounding the tiny stretch of land that is the Gaza Strip. Since then, Gaza continues to appear on the news once in a while, as a recurring subject of human misery.

The tireless efforts of British MP George Galloway, and the courageous endeavors of the Free Gaza movement have managed to push Gaza back into the spotlight, even if momentarily and with political context which is lacking at best.

It’s Not An Option

dncCongress: It didn’t take long to run into an “uh-oh” moment when reading the House’s “health care for all Americans” bill. Right there on Page 16 is a provision making individual private medical insurance illegal.

When we first saw the paragraph Tuesday, just after the 1,018-page document was released, we thought we surely must be misreading it. So we sought help from the House Ways and Means Committee.

It turns out we were right: The provision would indeed outlaw individual private coverage. Under the Orwellian header of “Protecting The Choice To Keep Current Coverage,” the “Limitation On New Enrollment” section of the bill clearly states:

Do You Really Know What Liberty Means?

ross_authrImagine, if you will, a child who grows up living a completely sheltered life. This child never is exposed to friends, to work, or to difficulties of any kind. Instead it is given everything it wants and needs. Now, if you were to take this child and let it loose in society, how would it act, how well would it be able to survive?

Not very well I would imagine. This child would not understand the concept of work, the meaning of pain, of sadness, or of anger. These sentiments would be completely foreign. It might very well be too much for this child to contend with, causing it to suffer a breakdown, leaving it totally unable to cope with life.

Zuckerman: The Economy Is Even Worse Than You Think

gelt_coinThe average length of unemployment is higher than it’s been since government began tracking the data in 1948.

The recent unemployment numbers have undermined confidence that we might be nearing the bottom of the recession. What we can see on the surface is disconcerting enough, but the inside numbers are just as bad.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics preliminary estimate for job losses for June is 467,000, which means 7.2 million people have lost their jobs since the start of the recession. The cumulative job losses over the last six months have been greater than for any other half year period since World War II, including the military demobilization after the war.

The Environmental Impact of Illegal Entry

visas_blogWASHINGTON (July 16, 2009) – Wildlife populations are increasingly threatened by illegal immigration and the alien smugglers who are cutting paths through federally protected lands. While environmental groups put out study after study detailing potential negative effects of a border fence on the environment, the story of the negative effects of not stopping illegal immigration across the Mexican border is a story that has remained untold, until now.

The Center for Immigration Studies has produced a web video using exclusive hidden camera footage.

Stuter: Can you say ‘insane’?

point_blank_blogJuly 16, 2009 - A nominee to replace a retiring Supreme Court Justice is named.  What, exactly, are the nominee’s qualifications to hold the office?  One, the nominee is female; two, the nominee is Hispanic.

These are the sole qualifications upon which Sonia Sotomayor has been nominated to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice David Souter!  Sotomayor certainly was not nominated for her understanding of the Constitution and Bill of Rights; or her understanding of the rule of law; Sotomayor has a 60% reversal rate on appeal of decisions rendered.
