June 14, 2009 – President Obama has never met a crisis he didn’t love; particularly the ones that involve spending trillions of dollars. What fun it is to propose programs that involve borrowing or taxing Americans to death.
On June 9, the Associated Press reported, “President Barack Obama on Tuesday proposed budget rules that would allow Congress to borrow tens of billions of dollars and put the nation deeper in debt to jump-start the administration’s emerging health care overhaul.”
Since the stealth heathcare “reform” that Bill and Hillary Clinton tried to foist on Americans during the 1993-94 Congress, this “crisis” has been off the radar screen of Americans who have the audacity to think they should decide whether and how much health insurance they want and to expect healthcare that is not rationed on the basis of how old they are and other factors determined by some faceless government bureaucrat.
June 14, 2009 – Most liberals regard illegal aliens as “Undocumented Democrats” and a veritable gold mine of opportunity for holding on to political power by coddling to those here unlawfully.
For that reason, most Democrat politicians have abandoned patriotic concern about homeland security, the rule of law, stability of the American economy and social order, and preservation of American language and culture.
In fact, one can search high and low for a liberal with a patriotic, pro-America stance on illegal immigration, and that search will usually be futile.
But there is a notable exception: A U.S. Senator who has shown remarkable wisdom, foresight, and clarity, especially for a Democrat.
June 14, 2009 – Deal between NRA leadership and Democrats leaves most Republicans in the dark
Wednesday started out as a routine day in the U.S. Congress, with Representatives attending congressional hearings, meeting with constituents, perhaps devising clever new ways to pick our pockets.
At 8:30 in the morning an email went out to House Republicans indicating that a gun control bill, recently introduced by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), was on the Suspension Calendar (normally reserved for “non-controversial” bills).
June 14, 2009 -Today’s financial events illustrate that America is not exempt from being led toward socialism. Predictions differ, depending on one’s perspective, as to whether this will be a socialistic paradise or asocialistic hell. Time will tell. In the meantime, we’d do well to listen to warnings from the past.
Russian thinker and author Fyodor Dostoyevsky offered the following take on socialism: “The future kingdom of socialism will be a terrible tyranny of criminals and murderers. It will throw humanity into a true hell of spiritual suffering and poverty.”
Socialist George Bernard Shaw added: “You would be forcibly fed, clothed, lodged, taught, and employed whether you liked it or not. If it were discovered that you had not character and industry enough to be worth all this trouble, you might possibly be executed in a kindly manner.”
That’s probably why Margaret Thatcher added that the “problem with socialism is thatyou eventually run out of other people’s money.”
June 13, 2009 – At the suggestion of a good friend, I went to the bookstore and picked up a copy of Ayn Rand’s book, Atlas Shrugged. I should be cursing my friend for recommending it, as I have found it difficult to put the damn thing down to tend to my daily chores.
A few nights ago, way past my normal bedtime I might add, I came across a phrase that I haven’t been able get out of my head since reading it. Two characters, Dagny Taggert and Hank Reardon were having a discussion and one of them said something about how many people just occupy space on this planet.
I have always been fond of saying that some people are just wasting good oxygen, but when I read that in Atlas Shrugged, the words just leapt off the pages and struck a chord that is still resounding.

Open your eyes fellow traveler to possibilities never before imagined and discover those things which have been directing your life, your thoughts, and your beliefs toward its evil end. June 13, 2009 - His room is ready; the walls have fresh paint and my kids prepared a basket of chocolates and other treats to place beside his bed. They hung a poster on his door that has been decorated with colored pens and glitter that says “Welcome Shobhi!” I have taught them that “Sobhi” actually means the “morning light”, and that during his visit, he will not be treated as a visitor, but as a brother. They have compiled a list of fun places to visit, parks, the beach and maybe a ferry ride.
Two weeks ago, my family, after months of anticipation, were scheduled to be the host family for a very special and unusual exchange program for kids from Gaza to visit the US. Our host child, Sobhi was schedule to arrive on May 30th.
June 13, 2009 – The $787 billion “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act,” otherwise known as the stimulus package, was signed into law by President Barack Obama in February. Since then, the economy has lost two million jobs, and unemployment has risen to 9.4 percent, — well beyond the administration’s top-end prediction of 8 percent if Congress would only spend the money. In Obama’s parallel universe, his so-called stimulus has thus far “saved or created” 150,000 jobs, and The One now promises to “save or create” another 600,000 jobs in the next 100 days. After that, he’ll part the Red Sea and turn water into wine.
