Ewart: Is There Another Way to Motivate A Politician?

ewart_blogFebruary 12, 2009“Motivation” is the set of reasons that determines one to engage in a particular behavior.  Humans can be motivated to some behavior or a particular action for external reasons, or internal emotions caused by external events.  Many of us are motivated to action by anger, wherein the anger is caused by the actions or behavior of another individual or group.  Individuals can be motivated to action by incentives and rewards, such as receiving a sum of money to perform a specific act, legal or illegal.  Some can be motivated to action or inaction by threats, or intimidation, or fear for our life, or another’s life to which we are emotionally connected.  Some are motivated by dire predictions of doom and gloom, real or imagined, from persons in authority, as our current President is doing now.   It is the same for every human being that lives on this planet and it is especially true for politicians.

Why the UN is Worthless to Human Existence

guest_thumb_1February 12, 2009Africa has more natural resources than the United States. Yet its people wallow in poverty and a horrible existence, not because the land doesn’t provide for them, but because of bad governments.

Case in point is Zimbabwe which, by all accounts, should be the richest of all African nations. It was once called the breadbasket of Africa because of its rich soil and prosperous farmers. Today, under the brutal, unending dictatorship of insane ruler Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe sits in ruins. As The Washington Times reported, “People are starving and compete in the countryside with baboons, jackals and goats for roots and wild fruits; health care has imploded and cholera is on the march as water and sewer systems collapse.”

The PLO: Why an Alternative and Why the Panic?

israel_thumb_new_1February 12, 2009When Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal declared before a cheering crowd in Doha, Qatar, on January 28, the need for a new leadership, his words generated panic amongst leaders of the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority as well as traditional Palestinian leadership elites stationed in various Arab capitals.

The reaction to Mashaal’s call was more furious than most of the statements issued by the PA and its backers during the 23-day Israeli onslaught against the Gaza Strip, which killed and wounded thousands of innocent Gazans.

We Are All Socialists Now

rear_window_blogThe interview was nearly over. on the Fox News Channel last Wednesday evening, Sean Hannity was coming to the end of a segment with Indiana Congressman Mike Pence, the chair of the House Republican Conference and a vociferous foe of President Obama’s nearly $1 trillion stimulus bill. How, Pence had asked rhetorically, was $50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts going to put people back to work in Indiana? How would $20 million for “fish passage barriers” (a provision to pay for the removal of barriers in rivers and streams so that fish could migrate freely) help create jobs? Hannity could not have agreed more. “It is … the European Socialist Act of 2009,” the host said, signing off. “We’re counting on you to stop it. Thank you, congressman.”

There it was, just before the commercial: the S word, a favorite among conservatives since John McCain began using it during the presidential campaign. (Remember Joe the Plumber? Sadly, so do we.) But it seems strangely beside the point. The U.S. government has already—under a conservative Republican administration—effectively nationalized the banking and mortgage industries. That seems a stronger sign of socialism than $50 million for art.

President And Congress Grovel Before The Fed

eye_on_america_newFebruary 10, 2009According to Bloomberg News (Monday, February 9, 2009), “The stimulus package the U.S. Congress is completing would raise the government’s commitment to solving the financial crisis to $9.7 trillion, enough to pay off more than 90 percent of the nation’s home mortgages.

“The Federal Reserve, Treasury Department and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation have lent or spent almost $3 trillion over the past two years and pledged up to $5.7 trillion more. The Senate is to vote this week on an economic-stimulus measure of at least $780 billion. It would need to be
reconciled with an $819 billion plan the House approved last month.

Girlymen – Soldiers of Subversion

biesada_thumb_newFebruary 8, 2009The Girlymen have seized our country and life in America, as we knew it, will never be the same. Congratulations Professor Gonorrhea, give yourself a pat on the back.

Ever since the Obama’s have moved to Washington D.C. along with the Chicago Crime Syndicate, the main stream media hasn’t unglued their lips off of President Obama’s ass.

Finally, last week, some media pundits, apparently suffering from a guilt ridden complex, have taken the initiative to un stick their lips and report the news about this candidate for “change,” and his administration filled with tax cheats.

Hollywood Comes to North Georgia

sunset_thumb_newFebruary 9, 2009Have you ever seen the movie I’d Climb the Highest Mountain?

This wonderful-classic movie was made during the 1950s, when families spent quality time at the movies where Coca Cola was a nickel, hot bettered popcorn a quarter and for a mere quarter you might see a double-feature film, cartoon and newsreel. Parents did not worry about the sexual, bad language or graphic scenes of the early films because most were family friendly.

Stupid Answers to Serious Issues

island_earth_thumbOn Jeopardy, the popular quiz show, they have a category called “Stupid Answers” in which the answer is so obvious, posed in the question, that it is virtually impossible to get it wrong.

Unfortunately, we are afflicted by too many stupid answers to very real issues and needs, the most fundamental of which is energy. At the very heart of our society and economy is the dependence upon and need for uninterrupted and increased energy, primarily electricity.

Baroud: Change the Lobby

israel_thumb_new_1February 9, 2009 -  One cannot emphasize enough the stranglehold Israel’s lobbying infrastructure has on US foreign policy. The events of recent weeks undoubtedly attest to this. “The special relationship” that has been historically fostered between the US and Israel in fact, is often a relationship of leverage, manipulation and intimidation, and often leads to the US supporting actions or resolutions that stand at complete odds with the interests of the American people.

The promise of change echoed the world over as people from all corners anticipated the magic moment Obama could actually change the devastating reality in which we live today.
