Rooted in Greek mythology, the term “Pygmalion” was also the title of George Bernard Shaw’s classic comedy. In the musical rendition, My Fair Lady, the Henry Higgins character is a Pygmalion. He sensed Eliza Doolittle’s potential, and felt compelled to develop it to its fullest – then fell in love with the “new woman” he had helped create.
For me, this Pygmalion Complex applies to America’s raw potential – its raw, untapped natural resources. I feel they should be developed for the benefit of people and society, but always with great care for our scenic and environmental resources.
February 24, 2009 – Remember back in February 2008 when President Obama came to Boise and spoke at a big rally? He made a big point of saying, “I won’t take away your guns,” because those nasty, dishonest Republicans were saying that Obama was going to do that.
It sure didn’t take long for Obama to reveal his intentions. The afternoon of the inauguration, the White House Web site’s Urban Policy page admitted that he is indeed going to try and do exactly that. “Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.”
February 23, 2009 – Enough fear mongering, and enough tactics of fear and intimidation, coming out of this Obama administration.
It’s time to call a spade a spade, and realize that the American people have just been hoodwinked into transforming the United States into a Socialist nation.
Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, shame on you.
February 23, 2009 - The time of denial is over. It’s time to face the reality as it is. Those who have chosen to remain in denial of the reality of this present age, will perish. They will perish as did those who came before and similarly refused to face the reality of their time. America’s new paradigm is not something that will come in a future time. The new American paradigm is already here, now! The sooner this reality is faced, the greater chance we will have of surviving. Survive we must. For, it is within us, who for a short time had tasted that sweet taste of freedom and we must not let the idea of freedom perish from the hearts and minds of men. The America we knew has died, but the idea of freedom must not die but kept alive, if only hidden deep within our hearts.
February 23, 2009 - Awhile back I arrived at work to overhear the tail end of, what I can only describe as, a verbal sparring match. Since I didn’t hear the opening rounds, I cannot say what started it, but it was definitely regarding Barack Obama. The person, who obviously disliked Obama, obviously was in control and was maintaining a level head, if you ask me, he was enjoying the whole thing. On the other hand, the young woman who was trying to defend Obama was close to hysterics.
It was nice to see someone else on the firing line besides me, so I went in and got my morning cup of coffee. However, that incident kept popping back into my head, and I couldn’t figure out why, until now.

February 18, 2009 - Deep in the recesses of our brains, lies a hidden dread from the long, perilous nights in the mountains, steppes, jungles, deserts and the grassy plains of many thousands of years ago. A left over dread no doubt, from our caveman existence, where our fears were not confined to our nightmares, but in reality itself. Death stalked the night in the form of stealthy carnivores, in a pre-historic land where humans had not yet reached the top of the food chain and were in fact, the hunted, as well as the hunter.
As our Sun sets on the western horizon, sometimes hidden behind the clouds in a deepening twilight, sometimes in unequaled splendor of a thousand changing colors, sometimes in an iridescent flaming yellow and then orange, we grow almost unconsciously uneasy and seek the light and warmth of our homes and the company of loved ones to escape the dark.
With Valentine’s Day comes the other “V-Day.” The latest gimmick of those, as many father’s rights activists put it, “in the domestic violence industry,” is to appropriate wholesome holidays about good things that make us feel joy and turn them into diatribes against men.
A few years back, members of the Elizabeth Freeman Center of Berkshire County, Massachusetts put advertisements in the Berkshire Eagle on Mother’s Day from men promising not to beat the daylights out of their wives.
