Matters in Hand
February 8, 2009 - As we once again look forward to battles within the arena known as, “The Right to Keep and Bear Arms” – in other words, the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution, we once again look back in history to one of the finest writers to ever hold court in the “City that Works” – Mike Royko.
Royko passed on, April 29, 1997. I miss Mike and his wisdom – but his words still ring true…

It’s 2011 & I’m just getting this story from a friend via e-mail. By far, it is the best (& funniest) story I’ve read in a long, long, long time. Mike Royko is a great columnist, I wish I was older (or at least had more interest in editorial writing) in the 90′s. As life would have it, I was a teenager (go figure). But this story is a classic & I’m definitely going to share it w/ everyone I know!
The original column may have appeared in the Chicago Tribune on April 29, 1993.
You gotta love this!
Mike Royko was my favorite columnist. The above column is just one reason why.
Jeff, I like you miss Mike’s dry wit. hb
